Uptown Screen Printing at Battle Ground will hold a grand opening for its new storefront next door, Uptown Clothing Company, on September 15.

Store manager Tracie Grant said people can buy a blank shirt or bring their own and watch the design being printed on it at the store.

“We’ll have face paint for the kids, we’ll have live music, we’ll block off our little parking lot here,” Grant said. “Every square inch of the real estate here in the parking lot is wanted, so we’re going to pick up a ton of that and have food and drink, and bring people in and really get a better understanding of what our shop is about.”

She said they will also have over 100 screenprint transfers for people to choose from if they don’t want the default custom Battle Ground shirt design.

“(Uptown Screen Printing) started two years ago and Jamie (Young) opened Uptown Screen Printing, and then we just merged into the office space next to our screen printing shop,” Grant said. “We actually cut a hole in the wall and came to the other side to give us more space for our production screen printing company and opened Uptown Clothing Company because we had customers who were asking for very small personalized shirts and clothes. and gifts.

On the production side, Grant said they needed a larger minimum number of items for orders, so the new storefront was launched to mitigate that.

“We were like, ‘well, we need this new space, and it’s a ton of space, so why not turn it into a clothing company and use our space for what our customers are really asking for?'” , she said.

At Uptown, Grant said they have instant printing, which puts ink on transfer paper and then applies heat. This allows people to “get a ton of great prints” quickly. She compares it to the Build-A-Bear workshop. People can choose more than 100 designs which can be printed on t-shirts, flannels, hoodies or tank tops.

“(It’s) super fast, super easy, and personalized, so it’s about what style of shirt you want, what color of shirt you want, and what shirt print pattern you want,” Grant said. .

In terms of design, she said the store tries to cater to “a bit of everyone”. For example, they have a local “Battle Ground patriots” print that is worn by many area veterans. They also have designs for kids and prints that appeal to local realtors or construction crews.

She thinks the new store will bring great benefit to the community.

“I think it’s just a great place for people,” Grant said. “We’ve already had a lot of people say they love being able to come and get something personalized and support a local business. So I think it gives people the ability to have a personalized shirt with something that’s important to them, that’s meaningful to them, and they can style it themselves instead of just walking into a retail space retail and buy something that’s already mass-produced. .”

The event will feature live music. Food and beverages will also be provided by in-house staff. She said they will serve light appetizers and drinks. The first 50 participants will receive a free gift bag upon entry.

The grand opening will take place at 713 W. Main St., Suite 107, Battle Ground. It will take place from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on September 15. The inauguration is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and live music will be played from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
