Formnext, Europe’s leading trade show for the 3D printing industry, has announced that registrations are now open for this year’s Formnext Start-Up Challenge.

Innovative 3D printing companies that have been in operation for less than five years are invited to submit nominations for this accolade, decided by a panel of industry professionals, including 3D Printing Industry Editor-in-Chief Michael Petch.

Companies with a particularly sustainable approach or contribution are also encouraged to apply for the AM Ventures Impact Award, which recognizes the positive environmental impact of 3D printing innovation.

The 2022 Formnext Start-Up Challenge

The Start-Up Challenge aims to provide a platform for emerging 3D printing companies to raise their profile and find potential customers and investors.

Previous winners of the competition are 3D printing software company 3YOURMIND, automated post-processing provider DyeMansion and 3D printer manufacturer SLS Sinterit. After an all-digital event in 2020 following the Covid-19 pandemic, the official Start-Up Challenge awards ceremony returned to the show in 2021 to celebrate a new round of winners.

Last year’s winners included Danish start-up Atlant 3D Nanosystems, High Area Rapid Printing (HARP) 3D printing technology developer Azul 3D, desktop 3D printer start-up Nobula, developer of 3D printed medical devices Fited and the American start-up Print Parts. . Meanwhile, medical device maker Vispala Technologies has won the 2021 AM Ventures Impact Award for its efforts to provide affordable and aesthetically pleasing prosthetics, orthotics and assistive robots to those in need.

Those wishing to follow in the footsteps of the companies above and submit their applications for this year’s Formnext Start-Up Challenge must have a market-ready product or service, be founded after January 1, 2017, and not be majority-owned by an established company.

The application deadline is July 1, 2022, after which applicants will be assessed by a panel of industry experts. The five winners will receive a 3D-printed prize courtesy of binder-jet 3D printer manufacturer voxeljet, in addition to a free booth at Formnext 2022 and inclusion in the event’s marketing and communications activities.

Winners will also have the opportunity to present live to industry experts and investors during the show, access business coaching from a member of the judging panel, and receive a company profile from 3D Printing Industry.

AM Ventures Impact Award 2022

Companies that apply for the Formnext Start-Up Challenge 2022 can also apply for the AM Ventures Impact Award.

The award was first launched in 2020 by investment firm AM Ventures and is awarded to the 3D printing company that advances the 17 environmental goals set by the United Nations (UN). The award also recognizes companies that address the social aspects of sustainability, such as education and equality.

The Impact Award winner must demonstrate that they have had a significant impact on the environment in their chosen field with regard to the technology they provide and their applications. Companies must also be able to demonstrate the actions they have taken in terms of sustainable development, including within their supply chain.

The application deadline for the Formnext Start-Up Challenge 2022 and the AM Ventures Impact Award is July 1, 2022. The official award ceremony will take place at Formnext 2022 from November 15-18 in Frankfurt.
