Essentra Packaging invests in digital printing for cartons with a Landa nanographic press

A UK first for the packaging industry

Multinational packaging specialist for the health, personal care and beauty sectors, Essentra Packaging has announced its investment in a new Landa S10 nanographic printing press at its Bradford site, marking the first installation of the machine in the UK packaging industry.

Supporting Essentra Packaging’s goal of being at the forefront of new technologies for its customers, the Landa S10 press unlocks the production of high quality folding cartons by combining the quality, speed and precision of offset printing with the versatility of digital printing.

Nanographic printing eliminates the need for plate production, with ink ejectors delivering ink at stunning resolution, easily comparable to offset and flexographic printing.

Andrew Hopkins, Managing Director UK and Ireland, said: “At Essentra we have never been afraid to innovate and find innovative ways to add value to our customers. Our investment in the Landa S10 press at our Bradford production site is the latest example of how we are building one of the strongest complete offerings in the pharmaceutical packaging, personal care and beauty industries.

“Offset is the dominant printing method for folding cartons and the quality of this technology speaks for itself. However, it has never had the same flexibility and versatility as digital printing. The Landa S10 offers the best of both worlds, the adaptability of digital with the performance of offset. We look forward to bringing Essentra customers this dream blend of speed and quality. Just put us to the test! “

To generate offset-quality printing using digital technology, high-resolution ink ejectors deliver stunning resolution with high coverage, multiple grayscales and truly exceptional color definition. Ensuring color consistency, the Landa S10 press, installed by the company in May, is equipped with technology for rapid calibration and flawless print uniformity.

Mark King, Global Head of Technical, Essentra Packaging added, “What our customers learn about Essentra is that while we are always looking to push the boundaries of technology, one area we will never compromise on is quality. While it’s so vital to our customers and their business performance, it’s absolutely critical to us as a packaging manufacturer. We must be able to impress on every draw without exception.

“With the Landa S10 nanographic printing press, the technology automatically checks registration, checks nozzle status and detects print issues. Add to that the way the technology opens up incredible possibilities in variable printing, serialization capabilities and all with a wide color gamut, and we’re talking about a huge breakthrough in quality, service and printing performance. We challenge our customers and the wider market to see the difference for themselves.
