COMPANY NEWS: Ricoh, a leading provider of smart workplace technologies, today announcesd it has been selected by Cheque-Mates, a leader in print production and commerce communication, to supply a new high capacity digital printer.
The Ricoh Pro C9210 digital sheetfed press can produce high quality color prints at up to 135ppm on a variety of media types up to 600µm thick and offers a print resolution of 2400 x 4800dpi.
Cheque-Mates, a Lamson Group company, has been in business since 1990 and operates as a business partner to the printing industry. Ricoh’s purchase is the first time the company has sourced a printer from a vendor other than Fujifilm or HP in its early days.
Ricoh’s purchase was part of a digital refresh program that began in July 2021. At that time, research was undertaken to determine what alternatives were available in the wider market that could potentially meet the needs of business printing.
“The technology selection process is very important to our business because we ultimately invest on behalf of our channel partners. Our technology must perform, because many companies in the sector rely on us. We spent a lot of time carefully evaluating equipment from various vendors before creating a shortlist of three, including Konica Minolta, Fujifilm and Ricoh,” says Group CEO Lamson Paragon. Several demonstrations were then held in each vendor’s showroom where printer performance, raster image processors and output were examined. Once this operation was completed, the decision was made to invest in the Ricoh Pro C9210.
“We were very impressed with the quality of the machine’s engineering as well as the consistency of the output,” says Frost. “During the testing process, the Ricoh printer did not experience any paper jams, which is remarkable. Our industry is spoiled by the options we currently have when it comes to machines, but the Ricoh Pro C9210 stood out for our needs.
The decision to purchase the Ricoh printer was made at the end of December 2021 and it was installed and fully operational in March 2022.
Freeze indicates that the new Ricoh printer is used for a wide range of jobs with print runs ranging from 50 to 50,000 sheets.
“We are also realizing productivity improvements due to the significantly improved uptime. The rated speed in a brochure isn’t always necessarily what you see materialize as an actual production output,” says Frost. “Jobs can be completed faster, which means we can achieve higher production volumes and faster results for our partners.”
Frost says it’s likely that Cheque-Mates will invest in additional Ricoh equipment in the future to meet customer demands. “Thanks to the experience we have gained with Ricoh, we have a long-term strategic partner,” says Frost.
